Sunday Writing Prompt “Animal Kingdom”

The challenge

Today you have two options

You can

Write a poem or short story about an existing animal. Don’t name the animal you are writing about let us guess based on the description of the animal. Pay careful attention to the animal’s personality and mannerisms and be sure to point out any charming eccentricities!

Write a poem or story whereby you pitch an idea for a new type of animal to the Creator. Why do you believe the world would benefit from the existence of your creature? Don’t forget to describe the appearance and general temperament of your creature in detail!

I’d love to have you as a pet. You’d be the talking point of the street, especially when I tied you up outside to do the weekly shop. You’d earn your keep of course, as you’d be our transport as well as guarding our property. No-one would dare mess with you.
Your intelligence is above reproach, though your eating habits might prove a tad awkward and you can be a bit of a joker when it comes to taking a drink.
You could hardly sleep on my bed, though if it were possible, I wouldn’t mind. Maybe we could change lodgings and I’d sleep on your bed with you. Now that would work.
Clearing up after you might also be a bit of a bother. You do tend to do rather big jobbies and when you wee, it’s like Niagara Falls. But you’re loyal and loving, and I know you’d look after us.
Now if I could make a wish to the Creator and ask him to make you in miniature, maybe then you could play with the mice instead of reportedly being afraid of them.

About pensitivity101

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! In November 2020, we lost our beloved Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. We decided to have a photo put on canvas as we had for her predecessor Barney. We now have three pictures of our fur babies on the wall as we found a snapshot of Kizzy, my GSD when Hubby and I first met so had hers done too. On February 24th 2022 we were blessed to find Maya, a 13 week old GSD pup who has made her own place in our hearts. You can follow our training methods, photos and her growth in my blog posts. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.
