Photo Challenge #312

Nekneeraj has chosen a photo by Astro Wizard on Pexels.com to inspire us this week.

The path is familiar, though I tread it alone now.
So many seasons ago we walked it together you and I,
On sunny days we removed our shoes and felt the earth on our toes,
The leaves staining our skin in the morning dew.
Long Summer nights we would lie and listen to the hushed trees,
Staring up at the sky devoid of unnatural light,
Watching the stars playing peep-a-boo above us.
Our son was conceived here on such a night,
You held me so close, your heart was an echo of my own.
The night after he was born we brought him here
To show him his rightful place in Nature,
He was a part of it, a part of me, a part of you,
A gift from this place held so precious and so dear.
The path is familiar, but I am not alone.
The mist is but a blanket of my unshed tears,
My thoughts, memories and love are forever with me.
The trees welcome me,
Flanking my journey in their warm embrace
As I return to where I was loved, lived, and gave life.

About pensitivity101

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! We have an elderly dog called Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.
