Naughty Babies

Although I haven’t been to SW for over a month, I have been keeping a watchful eye on the scales and the direction of choice. In recent weeks, this has been against the grain, so for the past ten days I have been exceedingly good and the scales eventually cottoned on that I was not going for a record.

I had more or less resigned myself to the fact that my SW membership would lapse, so I was actually pleased to get the text message yesterday saying all meetings were suspended without penalty and memberships were safeguarded.

In a moment of madness some three or four weeks ago, I succumbed to purchasing a bag of jelly babies which were chanting See me, Buy me, Eat me from the shelf. I weakened on 1 and 2, but they have been in the drawer ever since.

Or were.
Yesterday, the call of the jelly baby weakened my resolve and I opened the packet. I was very good and put a few in a dish, logic dictating I would therefore not do what I usually do and eat the lot in one sitting. I should point out here that my previous preference was wine gums, but they changed the recipe last year and I haven’t bought any since. This is certainly not a hardship when you’re trying to diet and have an insatiable sweet tooth.
I should have known better, as every time I went in the kitchen, I opened the drawer and had a couple…………. or three. Before long, there were only a few left, so I put them in the dish and brought them in to torment me from the coffee table.
I am pleased to say I did not eat them all! Hurrah.

I got on the scales this morning and the needle has turned tail and gone in the wrong direction. Naughty jelly babies!  I punished the remaining five by eating them with my breakfast.

About pensitivity101

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! We have an elderly dog called Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.

LOL! You showed them. I don’t have a sweet tooth and I’m craving sweets. Maybe it’s the confinement.

    • Apparently a bar of chocolate is allowed on the ‘must have’ shopping list.

It makes perfect sense Di. Enjoy it 😊

      • Haven’t bought it yet, but I did win an Easter Egg n the raffle last week which is in the cupboard.

Ahhh … something to look forward to

      • I won a box of jelly babies too, but now I’ve eaten the packet I already had, they can wait!

        You’re lucky, you win stuff.

      • Not always. My first bingo night out I was running six cards and won 5 prizes………. one for each of the other people whose cards I was running.
I was invited to a bingo evening shortly after we moved to Lincolnshire and did exceptionally well there too, including the star prize of an Easter Cake and cake stand. There was no way the two of us could eat it all (well, we could, but that would have been piggy) so we took it to the local residential home and offered it to them, minus 2 slices for us if that was OK. Turned out they’d baked it in their kitchens and everyone was disappointed they couldn’t sample it. There was enough for all of them, and it really was delicious.

What a lovely gesture Di. Funny though that it ended up back where it started.

      • It was a lovely cake, and we had no idea it was the Homes kitchens that had baked it when we took it there. From what we understand, it was one of their activity projects, so for everyone to have some in the end, well that made it all the more special.

That’s such a terrific activity project! Brilliant idea.

      • I remember when Mum was mixing her Christmas cake everyone had a stir and made a wish. I wonder if this was the same? They were a happy bunch. Lovely staff.

Lol! It happens, specially if one is stressed out.

  4. Haha, poor jelly babies, Di. I am glad I don’t have a sweet tooth and have no problem resisting jelly babies.
