Out without a whimper

Maggie had her stitches out today and the vet is very pleased with her.
I couldn’t look (wimp) but it was done and dusted in less than half a second and she didn’t even notice. The wound may weep a little so we can clean it with the hibitane solution. We told him we’d had to do that twice since her op, but it’s healing nicely.
We’ve been told to stop the loxicom (metacam) anti-inflammatory unless it’s for her joints, and he’s given us a change in meds. We’ll get a refund on the originals we haven’t used, and these new ones are for five days. Her motions have been OK, formed, but soft, so this could be a side effect of those meds and/or the loxicom.
She’s also had her annual shots today, so she’s a little dopey and wanting to sleep which is normal for her.

Actually, she was a little subdued this morning, but we noticed yesterday on our final walk that her right front foot was troubling her. We tried to have a look and only managed to ascertain it was tender so dabbed in some of her foot cream which seems to have helped as she’s walking better today. We’ve had three walks so far, but as always when she’s feeling poorly we let her set the pace and reduce the distance.

All in all though a good start to the day.

About pensitivity101

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! We have recently lost our beloved dog Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. We decided to have a photo put on canvas as we had for her predecessor Barney, and now have three pictures of our fur babies on the wall as we found a snapshot of my GSD so had hers done too. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.

Little Thing. Hope she’s feeling good again soon. 🙂

    • Thanks Sci. We’re spoiling her today………. sausage roll and titbits of cheese so far plus her preferred biscuits.

Hope Maggie is still improving. 🙂

      • Hi Sci, new meds which are making her motions loose, but it’s only for five days. Day 3 tomorrow, and if too bad, will call the vet for advice.

Hopefully still heading in the right direction. 🙂

      • Set back last night, diarrhea and vomiting and we’ve been up all night with her. Have reduced the dosage to half rather than nothing as it’s penicillin and feeding her scrambled egg and rice so far today, which she has eaten. She’s sleepy which is probably a good thing, but if we have another bout, we’ll stop the meds. Motions were very loose this morning, but at least formed. She’s drinking OK so keeping hydrated.

        Oh dear poor Maggie.
I realise this is quite a late reply – I am not online much with all the power cuts – but my old boy Tex was permanently on antibiotics for his chronic UTI and I gave him a spoonful of yoghurt daily as a probiotic, to help with the potential tummy upsets.
Hopefully Maggie has recovered by now – I will catch up with you in a while . . .

      • She’s much better now thanks Sci, and the antibiotics finished on Friday. She likes the occasional bit of yogurt but not much now. We used to give her the greek style fatless but she went off it. Two good nights sleep in a row and her motions are almost back to normal.

Oh very glad to hear this. 😀

  3. Such a beautiful girl, your Maggie! ❤ Pudge and Ziggy had their annual shots on Tuesday and were dopey all day, but got a clean bill of health otherwise (except for their teeth). I put in an order for some anxiety meds for them for future use, but all in all a good visit. I'm glad Maggie's was good news too! Such a sweetie! Thank you for sharing her with me, it always gives me joy! 😀

  4. Aww, sweet Maggie!
