Song Lyric Sunday: 1st March 2020

Jim’s theme today is Listen/Hear/Talk/Speak.
Here is a classic from Diana Ross and Marvin Gaye from 1974

though The Stylistics had a massive hit with it in 1971

Written by Thom Bell and Linda Creed, Stop, Look, Listen to your Heart was always a nice slow smoochy ballad to ‘hold each other to’ on the dance floor. Nice.

Lyrics courtesy

You’re alone all time
Does it ever puzzle you, have you asked why
You seem to fall in love, out again
Do you ever really love or just pretend

Why fool yourself
Don’t be afraid to help yourself
It’s never too late, too late to

Stop, look
Listen to your heart, hear what it’s saying
Stop, look
Listen to your heart, hear what it’s saying
Love, love, love

Though you try, you can’t hide
All the things you really feel, this time decide
That you will open up, let it in
There’s no shame in sharing love you keep within

So jump on in
Head over heels, and fall right in
It’s never too late too late to

Stop, look
Listen to your heart, hear what it’s saying
Stop, look
Listen to your heart, hear what it’s saying
Love, love, love

About pensitivity101

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! We have recently lost our beloved dog Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. We decided to have a photo put on canvas as we had for her predecessor Barney, and now have three pictures of our fur babies on the wall as we found a snapshot of my GSD so had hers done too. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.

  1. This may sound strange, but I like The Stylistics version better. Thanks for sharing this Di.

    • The Stylistics had the first major hit with it and I had their album. Apparently Motown wanted to cash in on famous duets, hence Gaye and Ross who released their album in 1974, this being one of the tracks released as a single.

  2. Motown loved pushing their own machine – and they had other fantastic and legendary artists – but this one will always belong to the Stylistics! Thanks for the shares. 🙂

  3. John Holton says:

No one does it better than The Stylistics. The ’70’s were a great time for soul music.

  4. msjadeli says:

The Sylistics are a class act.

  5. Beautiful, music just doesn’t get any better. I went with Marvin, too, but different song.
