‘Mam! You gotta come see!’
‘Leave me alone Dora. I’m tired and I’ve got a headache.’
‘No Mam! Get up! Come and look. You won’t believe it!’
Dora shook her mother who was getting over one of her drunken stupors.
Elsie dragged herself off the couch reaching for the dark glasses she always kept handy after a night on the binge.
Dora was jumping up and down in excitement.
‘It’s my new Daddy!’ she exclaimed.
‘What???’
‘I got my wish for a new Daddy. I planted one of those funny seeds and watered it every day. Now look!’
Elsie shook her head in astonishment, then wished she hadn’t. It took a while for her eyeballs to stop playing pinball in her head and catch up.
Peering out from behind her glasses, she saw a naked man sitting in one of her disused ornamental pots. Squinting against the harsh sunlight, she took another look.
‘Oh god,’ she breathed.
She recognised him as the guy she’d thrown herself at the previous night who had promised to see her home.

About pensitivity101

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! We have an elderly dog called Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.

What a scenario you have painted here. I am guessing that explanations were quite hard to come by.

Actually, it’s a perfect take on the prompt! 😊

  3. Nice story Di. I wonder if Elsie met the man while playing darts.
