I am pretty easy going and a social person, though I am equally happy sitting in the background taking it all in and watching other people have fun.
I’m lucky in being a people person and others will chat to me be it in the supermarket queue, launderette or GP surgery.
I have belonged to a variety of Social Clubs in my time too and the ex husband was actually on the committee for the one at his firm.
Oh my. Did he get things wrong for their social events!!!

He arranged a do and I went out to buy a posh frock, as you do when the spouse could be considered under training management. He wore his best suit, I had a long dress, and everyone else was in casual attire. Overdressed did not even come close to the way I felt, and I kept myself in the background.

The second do he had a hand in I played safe and wore smart trousers and a casual top.
Disaster. Everyone else was dressed up to the nines, dripping diamonds and depositing furs into the cloakroom, the guys well dressed and suited. I held my own though, refusing to shrink into the wallpaper but was glad to get home.

For his third effort, I refused to go.

About pensitivity101

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! We have recently lost our beloved dog Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. We decided to have a photo put on canvas as we had for her predecessor Barney, and now have three pictures of our fur babies on the wall as we found a snapshot of my GSD so had hers done too. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.

  1. Hahaha! I love it! Isn’t that always the case when you try too hard to fit in!

Ah! The younger days! I also used to be very conscious of what I wore and how I looked. Now!!! It doesn’t matter at all.

Lol bloody men, been there done that 💜🌈

They say it’s always better to be over than under dressed. I had a similar experience, an intentional jab by a future daughter in-laws family.

  5. Sounds like my ex. He once wore an orange velvet tuxedo jacket to a very sophisticated dinner in Washington, DC. Fortunately, everyone there was too polite to point out how tacky that jacket really was. Of course, these days he’s probably fit right in.
