When I was working, I was paid monthly in arrears.
I found I could divide up my wages accordingly into housekeeping/bills and savings having what was left as ‘mad money’ to tide me over until the following month. Working on the rule of thirds always seemed to work out OK, but in several instances, there was always a lot more month left over after the pay day. However, I managed and only a few times had to ask for an advance on my salary if something unexpected turned up.
For many of the operation staff at that time their expenditure was weekly, and thus they had a regular sub each week except pay day week.
It worked well for everyone.
