Frank’s theme for the Tuesday Photo Challenge is REST this week.
Loads of things come to mind today, from resting up after illness, a hard day or sleepless night, to the musical ‘rest’ and pause when for one blissful beat, all is quiet is an ocean of tuneless noise.
I don’t have pictures, but I remember many years ago the accounts staff being taken out for a meal by the bosses one Christmas. It was to a very fancy restaurant with very fancy food and extremely fanciful prices. I played safe and had chicken as the traditional turkey dinner was not on the menu. When my meal arrived, I was stunned at the two inch square pastry enclosed mouthful of chicken breast on my plate, and discreetly asked where the rest of it was. Apparently if I wanted vegetables or a salad, there was an extra charge per selection. It was my first (and last) experience of nouveau cuisine. The bosses also had more plate visible than food, and the meal for the four of us, including a bottle of wine, came to over £200. Bearing in mind this was over 34 years ago, that was a lot!
Here is a picture of ‘rest’ I do have though, and that’s Maggie. This was taken in September 2015 and she was absolutely exhausted from a walk in the quarry when we were staying with MOH. She was a little stiff and got up on the chair behind me, then went to sleep.
Her walks are still as often but not as long these days, but encouraging her to rest can be difficult. Sometimes it means going to bed in the afternoon knowing she’ll join me.
