Sunday Photo Fiction : 26th January

Thanks to Donna for hosting the Sunday Photo Fiction challenge every week.

Sally went on about what others had, fancy holidays, a bigger car, the finest clothes.
Times had changed and the condo in Spain was the last straw.
Sitting outside their favourite coffee shop discussing the advantages of having one, Sally produced the brochure and told him all it needed was their signature.
On her return with another coffee, his mug sat alongside the document, the fountain pen resting neatly on the top.
‘He left me to catch the bus! ‘ Sally moaned to her sister.
‘I don’t think Ben wants a condo Sis. For you to go behind his back like that was probably too much.’
‘What? Of course he wants one! It’ll save a fortune on holidays and we can rent it out when we’re not using it.’
‘It’s a timeshare Sally. You only have it for a couple of weeks, not own it outright.’

Stretched out on Betty’s sofa with a cup of tea and some chocolate hobnobs, he heard her key in the door.
‘What did she say?’
‘She’s upset, but more stunned you left her like that than anything else. You really need to talk to her Ben. Explain how things are.’
‘Tomorrow. I’ll tell her tomorrow.’

About pensitivity101

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! We have an elderly dog called Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.

Things are going sideways for her.

  2. Hi Di…
A different challenge – my first Sunday morn read. I understood the jest of what you wrote – a little difficulty following who’s who – (hope you don’t mind the critique).
I’ve never written flash fiction – will have to do a tad of research.
Curious me brought up the site – read the rules and added it for a possible new challenge to participate in (enjoy variety).
    Tis all in fun!
I hope you are enjoying your weekend. ๐Ÿ™‚

    • No problem, I appreciate such comments as it helps with my writing. When I’d originally finished, it was 489 words, so I had to reduce it by more than half as the word limit is 200!
I had to leave it up in the air as to whether Ben had lost his job and money was short or he and Sally’s sister were now a couple!
These are good as the pictures are always so different. Rochelle Wisoff-Fields does a weekly photoprompt to called Friday Fictioneers (airs on a Wednesday and uses the Blue Frog too) and you only have 100 words. I manage to keep well below that on most!
Weekend is good…….. three walks so far and at least another 3 to go.

      • Thanks for the positive vibes. Cutting back on word count can be difficult and of course take into consideration of time allotment available. I’d like to give this prompt a try and I shall look into the other blogger’s site (less words). Gosh 3 walks with 3 more awaiting – I think I need to get a ‘small’ dog – only kind apartment complex allows. ๐Ÿ™‚

      • Maggie is a creature of habit and used to being taken for her walks from when we were on the boat (no garden) even though we were only liveaboards for three years. We get herded to the door at certain times, unless she is too tired herself and then we get a reprieve! There will be a link in my Friday Fictioneers to Rochelle’s site.

Someone is blind to what is really going on….well done! Thanks for still playing along.
