I’ve just seen this on Yahoo (link)
Apart from the Andrex toilet rolls (I paid £3.75 for 9 in Tesco this month and they are actually the same price in Lidl at the moment) and Weetabix which was over £2 a box when I was last interested, the article also lists the following
Extract
” Alpen original muesli (750g), Ben & Jerry’s cookie dough ice-cream (500ml), Dolmio bolognese sauce – original (500g), Innocent pure fruit smoothie mangoes and passion fruits (750ml), Knorr stock cubes vegetable (8x10g), Mr Kipling cherry bakewells (six), and Sure Men Motionsense 48hr anti-perspirant – active dry (250ml).”
Now you know me, always on the hunt for a bargain being on a strict budget and all, so I was interested in this, especially as when we do our main shop, we have access to four major supermarkets and split our list between them.
The ‘Which?’ list of 53 three branded items cost between £107.01 and £117.81 in the 6 supermarkets.
Note: Lidl and Aldi don’t have similar branded on-line platforms, so you didn’t have your researchers bombing around with shopping trolleys in an actual store.
The key word here is BRANDED.
Apart from toilet rolls and laundry washing liquid, we buy cheaper alternatives, which is why my weekly grocery bill is around £35. Of the extract list above, we don’t buy any of it, alternative or not.
This is the compilation chart that I put together last year. I intend to do another in the next couple of months after Brexit.
I hope Brexit doesn’t impact too hard!
We shall see, but methinks they will be using it as the excuse for anything that goes up in price or goes wrong!
