Thursday photo prompt: Presence #writephoto

Thursday is Sue Vincent’s Writephoto challenge. This was one of the first I took up when I started my blog and I try not to miss them.

This is this week’s photo:
For visually challenged writers, the image shows an old photograph of a pathway lined with standing stones leading through a flower-filled meadow.

Tom held the picture in his gnarled arthritic hands.
Several times he took another look and gazed back at what he was holding.
They had told him the land had been developed, and the meadows he remembered as a child were all gone, the stones having been relocated here.
The fields were full of poppies, buttercups and bluebells, their smell still lingering in the air of his memory. He stretched out his hand and took a step back in time …………………….

They found him asleep on the bench where they’d left him to get a cup of tea.
The park was a far cry from the open meadows, but it was peaceful and well kept.
On trying to rouse him, the picture fluttered to the ground.
Doug picked it up, recognising the photo immediately, only now there was a smiling figure in the midst of the flowers, hands caressing their stems and heads.

About pensitivity101

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! We have an elderly dog called Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.

  7. Loved the story, Di. It’s a shame we strive to change so much.
