A Poem for Christmas Eve: 2019

Every year I like to post a poem for Christmas.
This year it’s one for Christmas Eve rather than Christmas Day, and I’ve included words from the Three Things Challenge #92 through #95:
asleep, babe, bad, chubby, double, eve, harness, nudge, scatter, smoke, spoken, timid

I hope you enjoy it.

Night Visitor

On Christmas Eve, all was still
Nothing stirred, that was until
In the distance a bell was heard
Naught was spoken, not a single word.
At the windows, faces stared in awe,
Never having seen this sight before:
They should’ve been tucked in and asleep
But thought this time they’d have a peep.
Reindeer harnesses, glowed and shone
Santa’s sleigh brought gently down
On roof tops everywhere around
Sleigh bells being the only sound.
A puff of smoke and he appeared
‘Ho, ho ho…… what have we here?’
Chubby hands and rosy cheeks
This Vision in Red smiles and speaks….
Have you been bad, or have you been good?
And done the things you know you should?
If so, I have parcels and gifts galore,
We’ll scatter them round the tree on the floor.
A timid voice asks ‘Are you real?
Or a bad man come from us to steal…’
‘No no, dear child, I’m not a dream…..
What’s that? Mince pies and double cream?
My favourite, I’ll just loosen my belt’
And then a nudge in the back he felt.
Rudolph stood with his nose aglow,
‘We haven’t got all night you know!
Come on Santa, have your fill and be fed
And let these babes get back to bed.

Merry Christmas Everyone.
May you have a wonderful day
and Happy New Year.

About pensitivity101

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! We have recently lost our beloved dog Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. We decided to have a photo put on canvas as we had for her predecessor Barney, and now have three pictures of our fur babies on the wall as we found a snapshot of my GSD so had hers done too. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.
