Song Lyric Sunday 15th December

Jim’s theme for today, December 15, 2019  is Baby.
Although this isn’t a ‘Baby’ song, it does have the word Baby in it.

This was released as a single in 1968 and reached number 8 in the UK charts.
I was 12, and just getting really interested in music in the charts. Singles were about six shillings each (30p today) but most of the singles I was buying were ex charts and reduced.

Judy Clay & William Bell Private Number

Since I’ve been gone
You’ve had your number changed
But my love for you, girl
Still remains the same

Now I’ve been loving you
And you’ve been loving me
So long, baby, what’s wrong

So I’m asking baby, baby, baby
Please let me have your number, yeah
Baby, baby, baby
Please let me have your number

I’m sorry you couldn’t call me
When you got home
But other fellows kept on calling
While you were gone

So I had the number changed
But I’m not acting strange
Welcome home, nothing’s wrong

So I’m saying, baby, baby, baby
You can have my private number
Baby, baby, baby
You can have my private number

Oh, thank you

Baby, baby, baby
You can have my private number
Thank you, baby
Baby, baby, baby
For giving me your private number
You can have it
Thank you, baby

(Baby, baby, baby)
You can have it
Thank you, baby
Anytime you want it
Thank you, baby
You can have my private number

About pensitivity101

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! We have recently lost our beloved dog Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. We decided to have a photo put on canvas as we had for her predecessor Barney, and now have three pictures of our fur babies on the wall as we found a snapshot of my GSD so had hers done too. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.

I’ve never heard that one begore but its lovely. Thanks for sharing… 🙋‍♀️🐝

  2. The word baby is used quite often in this song. I vaguely remember this song, but it has been a long time since I last heard it. It has a nice soul sound to it.

  3. Lisa Coleman says:

I had forgotten this song. Thanks for bringing it back! “Baby Baby Baby, you can have my private number”. This was back when there were still party lines. So to have a private line was special. You have double meaning here. Loving it!

  4. I haven’t heard that in a long, long time. Thanks for the memory Di 🙂💕

  5. msjadeli says:

Their two voices sound so well together. New song for me. Good one!

  6. I like this! I know the artists but unfamiliar with the song – but nice selection! 😊

New one for me, too, but a nice one. I remember buying single records all the time, and I still have most of them from back then. 🙂

    • I sold a lot of my 45s to a duke box owner. I don;t have any LPs or sngles now, and only 3 cassette tapes, but nothing to play them on. I have a few CDs though, but again, not very many and most are compilations put together for me by a work colleague many years ago.
