Today, December 8, 2019, Jim has given us Arms/Elbows/Knees/Legs as our theme.

I’m going with Arms and Dire Straits.
My late BIL was a fan of Dire Straits and this was played at his funeral in 2010.
It is also one of my all time favourites and I’m doubling it up with my December Theme for today.

[Verse 1]
These mist covered mountains
Are a home now for me
But my home is the lowlands
And always will be
Some day you’ll return to
Your valleys and your farms
And you’ll no longer burn
To be brothers in arms
[Verse 2]
Through these fields of destruction
Baptisms of fire
I’ve witnessed your suffering
As the battle raged high
And though they did hurt me so bad
In the fear and alarm
You did not desert me
My brothers in arms
[Bridge]
There’s so many different worlds
So many different suns
And we have just one world
But we live in different ones
[Guitar Solo]
[Verse 3]
Now the sun’s gone to hell
And the moon’s riding high
Let me bid you farewell
Every man has to die
But it’s written in the starlight
And every line in your palm
We’re fools to make war
On our brothers in arms
It does sound like a nice song for a funeral. Was your BIL in the military? Almost every war is pointless and we need to find other ways to resolve things.
He was in the Navy for a very little while when it was discovered he was asthmatic and couldn’t do the diving aspect he had wanted. Apparently his mother insisted on buying him out.
That’s one haunting song and I remember it when they played it in the 80’s. Great choice šāāļøš
I’ve always like this, especially the guitar as he is one of the best.
Indeed šāāļøš
It would be very difficult not to start sobbing if this song was played at a loved one’s funeral. Dire Straits are an excellent slow jam band. The mournful guitar and his husky voice are a winning combination.
It was a lovely service.
