Here we go with Melanie’s first SYW for December.

What’s your remedy for the Holiday blues?
It depends on whether the blues are whilst you’re on holiday (it happens!) or afterwards.
Retail therapy has never been of interest to me, though food is, so whilst on holiday it makes sense to sample the local cuisine, or at least their sweet pastries and confectionery.
Back off holiday and it’s still food, but any extravagance is curtailed due to probable overspending whilst away.
However, if preparing for the holiday season, blue is not my colour as it’s an excuse to get in some special goodies (food again).

Your favorite beverage (if it differs) during the holiday season?  If it doesn’t differ, just answer the ‘what’s your favorite beverage” part.
Tea, though I may go for a latte coffee.

This one has been asked before, but what’s your take on pumpkin spice?
I’ve never had it so can’t say.

Is there is a person or god connected with your holiday?

  • Who are they and do you believe in them?
  • If you do not believe in these people or gods, does the celebration/honoring of that being, bother you in any way (e.g., ignored, dismissed, angry, etc.)?
I celebrate Christmas and Easter by tradition rather than religion, however, it does annoy me when those traditions are under threat because of pandering to  minorities.

My gratitude song is

It never fails to lift my spirits regardless of the season.

About pensitivity101

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! In November 2020, we lost our beloved Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. We decided to have a photo put on canvas as we had for her predecessor Barney. We now have three pictures of our fur babies on the wall as we found a snapshot of Kizzy, my GSD when Hubby and I first met so had hers done too. On February 24th 2022 we were blessed to find Maya, a 13 week old GSD pup who has made her own place in our hearts. You can follow our training methods, photos and her growth in my blog posts. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.

  1. Great song Di! Nobody can watch that and not be uplifted! Pumpkin spice is a …well you know what? I don’t know WHAT it is, save that to me (and others): it plain STINKS. I was very happy with the apple and cinnamon scent of pine cones, but some twerp came up with another version which includes something (a spice I guess) that reeks. And the USA anyway has gone bat shit crazy for that crap..they put it in coffee, tea, creamer (for your coffee), they put it in candles and spray scent for your homes and all manner of other uses. Everyone (except me and those few I mentioned) seem to love the stuff. Uggghhhh!! I agree about the annoyance factor when traditional holidays are changed into something else because a few feel it infringes on their rights. Another example perhaps of how unbalanced the world is becoming and how quickly. Thanks for Sharing Your World Di! 😀

    • Hi Melanie. We tend to go for a ‘fresh linen’ kind of air freshener, which smells like clothes that have been dried outside.
The thing is, it doesn’t last that long which is a shame.
