We had a lobby at the bank………. it was decked out with a few chairs and a coffee table as visitors waited to be met by a secretary or supervisor to be shown up to the relevant office.
My Mum got to know that lobby quite well. She knew which was the comfiest chair, where to sit out of the draught from the doors and the messengers always offered her a cup of tea or coffee as she waited for me to finish at 5pm to go home.
Mum was independent in those days, and would meet me for lunch every Wednesday, but once every three weeks or so, she would come to the office and wait for me in the lobby so that she could come stay for the weekend.
I loved those times.
