Song Lyric Sunday: 10th November

Jim has given us the theme of Could/Might/Should/Would this week.

I wasn’t really a David Essex fan, but this track from 1975 was one of my all time favourites because of its simplicity and the stringed instrumental in the middle.
It’s not one that got a lot of airplay either then or now, but I still love it.
Enjoy.

If I could
Written and performed by David Essex.
Lyrics courtesy genius.com

If I could, love you forever
If I could love you everyday
If I could take your hand
Would ya understand
And let, me, show, the, way

If we could dance this dance forever
If we could laugh without the world
If I give you my life
Will you be my wife
Or is that too absurd

But oh we could have a lark, a lark
Picnicking in the park, the park
On Saturday night if you feel alright
We’ll go to the pictures when its dark

If I were a, plumber, would you love me
If you were a waitress, I’d love you
Could you picture us
On a number nine bus
To Canning Town we two
Just me and you

But oh we could have a lark, a lark
Picnicking, in the park, the park
On Saturday night if you feel alright
We’ll go to the pictures when its dark

Yes we could, walk our walks together
Or we could raise a family
When I come home from work
I’ll change me shirt
And sit by the fireside for tea
Just you and me

About pensitivity101

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! We have an elderly dog called Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.

Great choice Di, you can’t go wrong with David Essex πŸ’œ

  2. I am not very familiar with David Essex, but I read that he attained 19 Top 40 singles in the UK (including two number ones) and 16 Top 40 albums. A nice song Di, thanks for adding it.

    • He was in Evita (sang Oh what a circus), Silver Dream Racer, That’ll be the Day and Stardust. Hold me Close, Gonna Make you a Star and Rock On were probably his most successful singles from what I can remember

  3. I don’t remember that song Di, but I remember David Essex and Godspell πŸ™‚

Glad you chose this song, Di, as now he’s on my radar. The only song I remember is Rock On.
