Eloise took her seat nervously in the Manager’s office.
He was very kind and offered her tea before getting down to the business at hand.
‘Now Mrs Thomas,’ he began. ‘It’s a question of your overdraft. It has got a little high and we are concerned about your current financial status.’
Eloise blushed to the roots of her pink rinse and looked at the floor.
‘Am I correct to understand you have your state and widow’s pensions, but no other income?’
‘Yes,’ she said quietly. ‘But I have been very careful and rarely use my cheque book.’
‘We do have two rather large amounts debited from your account this month which I agree is unusual.  Are you aware of them?’
He showed her the entries on her bank statement.
‘Oh yes,’ she said brightly. ‘I bought myself a new microwave and a television.’
‘I see. Sadly that has taken you nearly six hundred pounds overdrawn.’
‘That’s not a problem at all Mr Jeeves! ‘ She said ferreting about in her bag. ‘I can rectify that immediately and write you a cheque. I have lots left!’

About pensitivity101

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! We have recently lost our beloved dog Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. We decided to have a photo put on canvas as we had for her predecessor Barney, and now have three pictures of our fur babies on the wall as we found a snapshot of my GSD so had hers done too. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.
