‘Excuse me?’
Tom didn’t see anyone.
‘Down here.’
He looked down.
‘Yeah, I know. Not exactly your Amazon Green or cute budgie, but I wonder if you can help.’
Nervously Tom said ‘Sure.’
‘Well, I sort of got carried away on the wings of love and now I’m lost.’
‘Yeah. Lost my bearings and I’ve got to get back before I’m missed.’
‘I’m a London Raven, you know, one of the fabled ones who live in the Tower?’
‘London? Can’t you get the Tube or something?’
‘Oh very funny. Like I’ve got money to buy a ticket.  Hello-oo!  Just point me in the right direction and I’m outa here.’
‘Was she worth it?’
‘The object of your affection, albeit misguided.’ Tom chuckled at his quip.
‘Oh, you’re a right comedian! Look, legend has it if the Tower Ravens leave, the Monarchy will fall. I have to get back! I can’t have that resting on my shoulders for eternity! Now can you help me or not? ‘
Tom raised a quizzical eyebrow.
‘OK, Yes she was……’
‘No problem.’ Tom said. ‘Get in. I’m a Taxi Driver and have The Knowledge.’
The raven was hesitant.
Tom grinned. ‘No charge!’

About pensitivity101

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! We have an elderly dog called Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.

  1. Funny our garden has a few ravens feeding here currently. I wonder if they came by taxi.

  2. Haha, Tom knew exactly why the raven was hesitant. Great take on the prompt!

  3. Sadje says:

Great story. Fun and poignant at the same time.

  4. Some of the younger royals could do with a bit of a nudge right now! Brilliant take, love it.

  5. DB McNicol says:

Had me smiling all the way through – loved it!

I had to skip this week (sad since it’s my photo), just too much life right now.

  6. Ha ha ha, quirky and fun!
