Ellie loved the smell of lavender.
It reminded her of her great Aunt and the little tea parties she used to give to her and her friends when she was a child. Fresh scones and home made jam were accompanied by the endless lavender fields that adjoined her property. For those living in the town, it was a magical place, the noise and smell of traffic replaced by humming bees and the heavenly fragrance of nature.
Ellie had inherited the cottage two years ago but knew her Aunt was always close by, the garden table and single chair a reminder of those days long gone. She kept them in good repair, missing the days when she’d sit at her Aunt’s feet and watch as she weaved the lavender with colourful ribbon and thread into pockets of essence in various shapes and forms for sale at the local craft fayre.
As she picked the tender heads off the plants, she thought she heard singing, and turning slightly was convinced her Aunt was sitting at the table, a scone in front of her, and her tea cup raised in a private salute.
Ellie smiled, and about to raise her hand in acknowledgement, but the image disappeared and the bees were the only things in full voice.
Turning back to her task, she continued to harvest her crop, glad that she had thought to experiment with flavouring and colour in her recipes which had taken off and provided her with a living.
Note:
I’ve been aware that lavender is good for helping relieve stress and headaches, but before I posted this, I checked the internet to see if it is edible.
There are several sites, this is just one which might be of interest

I would draw your attention to the site’s end paragraph
“
A Word of Caution
Eating lavender has no known interferences with medications, although you may want to proceed with caution if you take sedatives or medication to treat high blood pressure. Consuming lavender along with sedatives may cause increased drowsiness. Likewise, lavender taken in combination with medication for high blood pressure may cause your blood pressure to drop too low. Check with your doctor before using this flower in cooking if you have concerns about any possible drug interactions. “
A beautifully woven story.
Thank you
You’re welcome 😉
Lovely. 🌸
We have quite a bit of lavender this year and I haven’t known what to do with it besides enjoy it on the plant.
I used to double the stem back over the flowers and interweave with ribbon for wardrobe fresheners. I have a small pillow type sachet filled with dried lavender which has helped when I had a headache by slipping it under my pillow at night.
Back in the spring, I purchased some lavender sachets for our closet from Amazon. My husband said, ‘You know we have this right outside, right?” 😀
That’s funny. 😀 Sometimes we don’t think about it do we, and it’s impulse.
We have three bushes under our front window and it’s wonderful to hear the bees as well as smell it as it wafts in the breeze.
Oh, yes! They are really good at attracting bees.
