Song Lyric Sunday: 9th June 2019

June 9, 2019 – Desire/Lust/Romance/Passion

The above are the themes for this week’s Song Lyric Sunday

I’m going with romance and a song that reduces me to tears every time I hear it.
Norman Wisdom is one of the few who make me smile just thinking about them.
Never exactly your tall, dark, handsome and dashing hero, his mannerisms pull at my heart strings.

“Don’t Laugh At Me (‘Cause I’m A Fool)” was co-written by Norman Wisdom and June Tremayne; they appear to have both contributed to the words and the music. It was performed by the comedian himself in the 1953 film Trouble In Store, which according to the Internet Movie Database was released in the USA on January 12, 1955.
Unsurprisingly, it became Wisdom’s theme song; ‘Cos I’m A Fool is also the title of his autobiography, co-written with Bernard Bale (WIKI)

Norman Wisdom – Don’t Laugh At Me Lyrics

I’m not good-looking, I’m not too smart
I may be foolish but I’ve got a heart
I love the flowers, I love the sun
But when I try to love the girls
They laugh at me and run

Don’t laugh at me ’cause I’m a fool
I know it’s true, yes I’m a fool
No-one seems to care
I’d give the world to share my life with someone
Who really loves me
I see them all falling in love
But my lucky star hides up above
Someday maybe my star will smile on me
Don’t laugh at me ’cause I’m a fool

About pensitivity101

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! We have recently lost our beloved dog Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. We decided to have a photo put on canvas as we had for her predecessor Barney, and now have three pictures of our fur babies on the wall as we found a snapshot of my GSD so had hers done too. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.

  1. That takes me back. Remember hearing him singing as a kid. Plus he was a guest at a football match I went to at Newcastle somhe came onto the pitch. Was very funny.

  2. I loved your song Di and the video made me laugh.

The video is priceless. He certainly charmed every female in the vicinity. A real heartbreaker ❤

  4. John Holton says:

    A very nice song indeed!

  5. Astrid says:

I am blind so can’t see the video, but I laughed at the lyrics. Wonderful!

    • Hi Astrid.
      The scene is:
Norman is sitting opposite Sally outside a tea rooms, and something makes her laugh.
As he sings the song, the camera homes in on a lady piling sugar lumps continuously into her cup (it keeps going back to her) a young couple and then the waitress brings the bill. As he ‘fishes’ in his pocket to pay, he brings out a goldfish, which makes everyone laugh.
Do you have a special machine that helps you read text?

      • Astrid says:

Oh that’s a trully funny scene, I can imagine!

For reading text on my iPhone or Mac, I use software called VoiceOver. This either speaks the text aloud or displays it on a Braille display. VoiceOver is built into every Apple device. For Windows PCs and Android phones, there are paid and free screen readers too.

      • So glad you have technology in your corner Astrid. Hope you find things here you like in my blog. Some of the photo challenges I do describe the picture used for inspiration.

      • Astrid says:

        Oh that’s so cool!

  6. blindzanygirl says:

Oh gosh Di. I missed this yesterday. I love Norman Wisdom too. He broke my heart as well. A great man and his films were great too 😊

    • I’ve seen them all, but this is the only one he sings in I think. I remember the one about the orphanage too and little girl in hospital where he ends up on TV as they wouldn’t let him visit.
