KFC’s got nothing on this………

Running late again today…………

Maggie is still under the weather and once again spat out her meds, even though they are different, don’t smell as much, she’s had them before and usually took them in cheese or as tried today, sliced chicken.
Fickle creature that she is, she ate the chicken and spat out the pill.

OK then……………………………
I crushed up her pills, and a bit like the Colonel’s secret recipe, wiped the pieces of chicken breast in the mix. I showed her a piece and she turned her nose up, so I gave her a piece with nothing on it.
Oh yeah, yummy or what, so another little piece of ‘naked’ chicken, then a coated piece with the powder turned away from her nose. Gone in a jiffy.
One to me! Hurrah.
I gave her another coated piece, then another, until all of the crushed powder was gone, then gave her the remaining two small untreated pieces I’d kept back.

This evening, I did the same thing with her second dose, and it worked.
Now, as to whether it will tomorrow remains to be seen, but for today, it’s two doses of penicillin meds and one of metacam (which isn’t usually a problem to administer anyway as it’s in a syringe) done and dusted. RESULT!

We’ve had four walks today so far, she’s eating and drinking OK, and we had a little poo-let which was formed, but still soft.
Hopefully the trot inducer is out of her system now, and tomorrow we’ll see a reduction in the swelling.

Feb photos.

About pensitivity101

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! We have an elderly dog called Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.

    • Thanks Lorraine. I have some chicken left for tomorrow and will repeat the same process. She’s actually eaten very well today, chicken, her own dinner, and rice too!
