Teresa has thrown open a new prompt with the opener:
“Take a trip down memory lane and share your best vacation/trip/holiday memory.”
My best vacation has to be our honeymoon to Amsterdam in 1991.
At 35 (minus 2 days) it was my first trip out of the country and I was so excited at using a passport!
We got married in Poole registry office, and then the nine of us went for a meal.
Yep, including us, our wedding party totalled nine.
It was a wonderful day, no confetti allowed, so sugar puffs and rice crispies were thrown instead and the birds loved us.
Later in our honeymoon suite (one inside cabin with bunks on the overnight ferry), we were fishing them out of my bra for what seemed like hours.
When we got off the train and came out of Central Station, a barrel organ started to play and I felt it was just for me!
We took pot luck where to stay, going into the VVV to book a modest hotel for three nights.
We fitted right in as people asked us for directions, we were introduced to chips and mayonnaise, Dutch confectionery of marshmallow whips covered in chocolate and the vendor who got to know us had them waiting on the counter for us when we approached.
We enjoyed Dutch cuisine, there was no problem with language or money, definitely not food, and on my birthday, we took a canal boat ride.
Coming back was a riot as there was a public transport strike and we ended up hiring a car. We had to make the noon ferry in order for our tickets to remain valid for the rest of our journey. If you want the full details, you can read about it all here and here!
You guys must have had a really great trip.
It was great. As honeymoons go, it was certainly different!
Innovative!
That sounds a real hoot.
It was fun and funny (do read the linked posts as they go into a lot more detail)
