DIY calls

We’re at it again, or should I say Hubby is.
One of the last things on the Snag List is to paint the small bedroom.
Although the property was clean and presentable when we moved in, it has transpired that cheaper paint was used and original colours and defects have been pushing their way through. The spare room has been getting Hubby down, much like the kitchen, and as we have now discovered we need to replace the bed (which only set us back £20 anyway), it is an ideal time to decorate.

We had the paint already, so it was just a case of moving everything to the centre of the (7′ x 9′) room, taking down the curtains and removing everything from the walls.
We discovered we didn’t have a ground sheet, having used it for something else some time ago (what I can’t remember), so Hubby went up to get one, plus another roller and paintbrush just in case. Sensible guy.
We had lunch, and he was all set to begin.

He’s painted the one wall and it looks very nice, but sadly we don’t have enough paint afterall to do the rest, so a quick phone to ascertain they had the same one in stock, and off he’s gone.
Maggie and I are staying here so I can try and catch up. I can’t help him anyway as the room is too small for both of us to work. How they could say it’s a double room is beyond me. Maybe if the door was at the end rather than the side, because it only just opens with a three foot bed in there.

Note:
We’ve bought a new pine bed frame the same design as the double bed, so with no foot board, it should look less cramped. That’s in the back of the car and will shortly be joined by a tin of paint.

About pensitivity101

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! We have an elderly dog called Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.

It’s amazing how they classify things when you are buying a house! And how they paint things to make them look good.
Still it’s a spare room at the end of the day and with your careful management you’ll make it feel more spacious.
I just used old newspapers instead of a ground sheet. Worked quite well. 🙂
Good luck with the painting. 🙂

You have just reminded me of all the painting that needs doing around here. Thanks for that, I think!
