After my indulgence

You don’t want to know what I packed away at the darts supper last night. Let’s just say Will Power wasn’t playing and I sampled everything, though the individual chocolate biscuits I brought home for Hubby.
Today I have been extra vigilant and attentive to the SW bible, plus we’ve had a field trip  which has made things more challenging. Hubby was after something in particular, but it turned out the shop was shut, so we had a walk round the town instead.
It was approaching lunchtime, and three weeks ago we would have been content to grab a freshly made baguette, cake and cup of tea.
We did the same today, but only 50% as I just had a cup of tea and a piece of chicken and the tomato out of Hubby’s salad roll.

I’m allowed 15 ‘syns’ a day, but what qualifies as a syn varies, though I am again learning the pitfalls and traps.
Lidl have a fresh bakery and do individual baguettes which are lovely, but only on the day of purchase (unless I do a poor man’s pizza the following day). One of those weighs in at 125g. Bearing in mind 50g of such bread attracts 6 syns,  if I have one, it’s all of my 15 in one sitting. It’s doable, provided I don’t have any others and prepare for it. I didn’t today, so went without.

Also in the goody bag was a sausage roll for Maggie and a chocolate chip muffin for Hubby’s dessert.
We sat on a bench and passed the time of day with a guy and his westie, asking permission for his dog to have a bit of Maggie’s sausage roll as it wouldn’t have been fair to sit there and eat one in front of it. The starlings came along and picked up the pastry crumbs before I could.
We had a bit of shopping to do anyway, so I told Hubby I’d do that while he enjoyed his cake without me drooling all over him and not feel guilty. He did, and didn’t.
I treated us to some meringue nests which are 2½ syns each, so my plan was to have one with a fresh fruit salad and some yoghurt for my afters today.

We stopped off for a walk round the lake and to check on my ‘pet’. It also gave Maggie some exercise off lead as she’d been restricted in town and been very good for us.
We got home around 2.30 and Hubby didn’t want anything to eat so I made myself a tomato bake with mushrooms using tri-coloured pasta and green beans and carrots on the side. This was an excellent meal as it was all free and speed food, and the 30g of cheese for the topping had been carefully weighed for my second A option today.
I had 2 Hi-Fi cereals bars (SW’s own) which was allowed as my B option and I didn’t have the usual apricots on my cereal (4½ syns) this morning to compensate.
So far, so good then. I was so stuffed after eating that, I had my fruit salad and meringue for my third meal which equated to 5½ syns as I had fat free yoghurt plus a sprinkling of granola. Total syns today are therefore 10.

In contrast, Hubby was apologising for synning like mad in front of me, so I looked up the treats he had today:
Baguette 15
Choc Chip muffin 18
Chocolate biscuits  12½
Belgium bun 19½
Meringue nest 2½

It’s quite eye-opening, but he doesn’t need to lose weight and I don’t begrudge him anything.
I’m patting myself on the back as I’ve excelled myself in the ‘No Thanks’ stakes today.

About pensitivity101

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! In November 2020, we lost our beloved Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. We decided to have a photo put on canvas as we had for her predecessor Barney. We now have three pictures of our fur babies on the wall as we found a snapshot of Kizzy, my GSD when Hubby and I first met so had hers done too. On February 24th 2022 we were blessed to find Maya, a 13 week old GSD pup who has made her own place in our hearts. You can follow our training methods, photos and her growth in my blog posts. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.

There are days when I will eat anything that stays still long enough, and yesterday was such a day. Consequently, I feel disgusted with myself today and will try not to eat much in an effort to make amends… sounds like you are firmly in control, so I know which one of us will reach our goal first!

Syn ….I forgot it stands for?

    • It’s Slimming World’s ‘treats’ or foods that aren’t quite so good for us that have a calculated syn value. I can have up to 15 a day, but when you realise that a doughnut is 9 and a half, well, you can imagine the care that needs to be taken!
