Yorkie Bar, oh Yorkie Bar

The Yorkie beckoned
From the shelf,
You can’t have it,
I told myself.
Twelve plus syns
For a standard bar
Your daily allowance
Won’t go far.
Hubby reached forward
And picked it up
Looking as hopeful
As a four month pup,
How could I refuse,
‘Sure, go ahead,
You deserve a treat,’
Is what I said.
In the car,
He offered me some,
I turned my head
Contemplated my thumb,
I’d been good
And thought it worth,
Just one small piece,
It couldn’t hurt.
The bar had five,
And I had one,
Before I’d pass
As once begun
I’d eat the lot,
But today I swear,
At two and a half syns,
I stopped there!

About pensitivity101

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! In November 2020, we lost our beloved Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. We decided to have a photo put on canvas as we had for her predecessor Barney. We now have three pictures of our fur babies on the wall as we found a snapshot of Kizzy, my GSD when Hubby and I first met so had hers done too. On February 24th 2022 we were blessed to find Maya, a 13 week old GSD pup who has made her own place in our hearts. You can follow our training methods, photos and her growth in my blog posts. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.

    Bravo! True resolve.

    • I try not to deprive Hubby of anything he fancies. He’s got a blueberry iced doughnut for later and I’ve got a nice juicy peach! That single piece was heaven though (and I’ve used 14 of my 15 syns including it!)

You’ve done very well. And good that your hubby gets his treats, as he should. Lucky bugger’s not dieting.

      • He’s eating little and often, which to me seems like all day (sigh) yet his weight is pretty stable. If I don’t buy it, I can’t have it, and my books are on the coffee table next to a big bowl of fruit to give me incentive!

They say grazing is very healthy. A friend of mine has hypoglycemia and she is in a grazing diet — it keeps your blood sugar level stable throughout the day.

      • This seems to work for Hubby, though for me it just makes me more hungry all day!

Everyone’s different. I tried it and liked it, but couldn’t sustain it because it felt like I was always preparing something to eat — and I was working full time it meant I was always also having to plan and prepare ahead. My friend, on the other hand, who was also working full time, managed it fine.

      • Exactly, and this is what some ‘experts’ don’t allow for. Sounds daft, but our vet summed it up nicely when we were trying to sort out Maggie’s food as a pup: ‘Find something she likes that works and stick with it.’

        Exactly.

I’m sure Yorkies are one of the many chocolate bars that have shrunk over the years!

    • And then some. 46g I just love it when the wrapper is the same size, then you bunch it all up to one end and see just how much chocolate you’re getting or your money. This worked out at 1.5p per gram, so I scoffed about 14p worth with my little square.

  4. No can’t resist a Yorkie bar.
