Tuesday Photo Challenge – Wheel

Welcome to week 159 of Frank’s Tuesday Photo Challenge!

The Falkirk Wheel

This is a great photo Frank, and we would have loved to have gone up in this when we had the boat, but we only did the Grand Union and Stratford Canals before selling her. It must be a wonderful experience.

Our narrow boat didn’t have a wheel, unlike the wide beams. It was fascinating to watch the skill of the professionals as they turned a 70′ X 12′ floating apartment with ease.
Everyone got out of the way of one particular guy when he took his widebeam anywhere though. Even going round for a pump out, he hit almost everything in sight, despite his wife standing on the bow giving him hand signal directions like some pink fluffy figurehead as she was always in her dressing gown! He just couldn’t get to grips with the wheel being on the opposite side to his car and left and right just got lost in translation somehow.
This is us berthed on the Grand Union on our final trip in April two years ago.
Happy days.

About pensitivity101

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! Due to a nightmare of a house sale in 2014, 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat until April 2017. We made strong friendships both on and off the water, and enjoyed swan and duck families for neighbours. Sadly times change and we now reside in a small bungalow a short distance from the beach on the Lincolnshire coast.
