Sunday Writing Prompt “New Arrivals”

Our challenge is to write about new arrivals: it can be a baby, a pet, goods in a store, arrivals in an airport whatever you like!

I just have to write about the ducklings!
This afternoon, we walked the dog in the park and there were 21 ducklings on the lake!
This was the brood of 15 and one of 6, with mothers in full attendance.

What was so lovely was that as I sat on the bench with Maggie lying down beside me, the ducks, including 2 ducklings, and the geese came up really close, not bothered by the dog at all, the same as she showed no interest in them. Obviously it helped I had some seed to feed them, but it was wonderful to see.

I’m waiting patiently for the first goslings to appear now. Last year, they arrived first so either the mating season was later this year or there aren’t so many eggs this time.

There was one new arrival I was NOT pleased to see and that was a young herring gull.
He got shooed off by my fist as they take ducklings, but not on my watch if I can help it!

About pensitivity101

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! We have an elderly dog called Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.
