Blood results are back

Goes to show they can be efficient when they want to be.
I had a phone call from the surgery today wishing to make a telephone appointment to discuss the results of my blood tests.
I asked if it was to do with my cholesterol as I had this discussion every year as I did not wish to take statins.
She said yes it was, so I said to save their time and I was declining their offer.

Hubby and I have looked on-line at my records, and my cholesterol is up to 6.0 from 5.7 last year. Everything else is within the ranges set.
We have also looked up the side effects of Anastrozole, and there are a lot more things that apply now, though I am still not happy about taking a 6 week break ‘to see if things change’.
It’s my birthday next week, so Hubby has offered to pay for my enrollment back with Slimming World. If they still have the discount package, I can sign on for 12 weeks, paying only for 10, plus I get a discount as I’m over 60.
It might just be the kick up the backside I need.

I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! We have an elderly dog called Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.

I take statins for last several years. Barely in the range with them. But how long can you argue with your doctor.

    • So far since 2011. I looked them up and with my personal history as regards taking pills and side effects, decided not to. My cholesterol has reduced over the years, but I’m not surprised at the results. One way or another, it’s been a shit year for health issues and diet has definitely gone out of the window.

Surely, being a little overweight wouldn’t affect your cholesterol?

    • Ah, mine has always been a little higher than they would like. My weight has been an issue all my adult life, but I have to be honest, I haven’t been as diet conscious as I had been. However, my post cancer meds have side effects that are now coming to light after two and a half years. I don’t want to go on statins as although they may work for other people, I don’t want to run the risk of upsetting my body again after 50 years of trying to get the balance right! It’s the only thing they flag (though not last year), so if I can get it back down with diet, that will be good. It is still nowhere near as high as it was thirty years ago, but then neither is my weight, which is what I am going to address again now.

I won’t take statins either, because they give me diabolical muscle cramps. I do try and control what I eat, but it isn’t easy, is it?

      • Nope. Having been on the diet roller coaster for so long (almost 50 years!), to suddenly find something that worked for me (SW) I didn’t want to risk screwing it all up again. The meds I;m on now are doing a fine job of that already 😦 but it’s better than the alternative……….
