FOWC with Fandango — Terse

Today’s word is “terse.”

It was bad enough being gooseberry to big sister and her new beau, but having to sit through a long drive with Eric at the wheel prattling on about this Stately Home they were visiting was not exactly Ben’s idea of a fun day out.
He nudged his sister and said he needed the bathroom, so she asked Eric to stop at the next services so that they could all have a potty break, stretch their legs and get something to eat.
Eric was not impressed at being asked to do something that had not been his idea, making
Sophie frown at his attitude.
They resumed their journey, she and Ben content to munch on sandwiches and crisps.
Eric had declined their offer of a snack as he intended to have a decent meal in the  restaurant.
Arriving at their destination, Eric parked the car and went to get the necessary tickets for entry to the grounds.
When he came back, his face was like thunder.
‘What’s wrong?’ Sophie asked.
Eric’s response was terse.
‘They’re shut for maintenance and repairs.’
Ben burst out laughing, then shut up as he realised they had the long drive home, but not before he’d seen Sophie suppress a smile. Obviously she and Eric would be history now.

About pensitivity101

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! We have an elderly dog called Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.
