Rachel has given us ANIMAL as our subject today.
Yesterday I wrote a small piece about rats.
Today I’m going with another rodent but with happier thoughts. It might be familiar as I’ve tweaked a post from 2015.
When I think of Cinderella, I think of my Dad and the story he told me about his pet mice.
Apparently he was asked if he could supply half a dozen white mice for a shop window display depicting Cinderella and her magical coach.
Dad was only too pleased to oblige and collected them after the popular event.
He wasn’t that surprised to find that instead of the original six, he now had fifteen.
Eventually, he had to give them all away, and being friends with the owner, took them to the pet shop to be sold as children’s pets.
When he got back home, one had snuggled inside the turn-up of his trousers, so Dad decided to keep him.
The tiled mantle-piece had a ‘step’ at each end (similar to this), and Dad put the mouse’s bedding on one and his food on the other.
By all accounts, the mouse was content to run along from one side to the other in his new ‘home’, and never made any effort to escape.
Growing up, I can’t remember Dad having mice, but I know he loved all animals, so this little chap would have been well looked after.
An interesting story.
Dad was good with all animals.
That’s so sweet.
My friend and I bought two mice from Aldershot market and assured our parents we had looked in the book and they were both male. Dad loved woodwork, but his new shed was used to build mouse cages and house the cages – not much room for Dad’s own hobbies. We soon had forty mice.
My Dad would have joined in here.
Cute story. Thanks for sharing this bit of your personal life. 🙂
You’re welcome.
