For Sarah’s Saturday Mix challenge this week we are hearing things as we explore the use of ONOMATOPOEIA. You will need to use the THREE onomatopoeic words in your response – which can be poetry or prose.
Our three words, using onomatopoeia are:
The jangle of the overhead door bell jarred Esme awake. Thursday afternoons were normally quiet and she could doze in the back office of the second hand shop she helped out at in the holidays. Obviously not today.
It was chucking it down outside and people had been coming in to get out of the rain, though not necessarily to buy.
Each time, she put on her friendliest face and brightest smile in the hope of making a sale. She had to stifle a laugh as a rather buxom woman oozing Chanel and dripping jewellery squelched her way up to the counter.
‘I wonder if you can help me dear,’ she said. ‘I’m after some galoshes to wear over my shoes. Always loved to splash in puddles as a kid, but somehow it doesn’t seem right in Jimmy Choos.’
‘I don’t think we have galoshes, but….. ‘ turning round to rummage in the box behind her, ‘we do have these………’ and with a flourish, Esme produced a pair of waders.
The woman’s blood pressure rocketed with pleasure.
‘Perfect!’ she cried. ‘Where can I try them on?’
