As they stood on the path alongside the inlet to the small harbour, Bob stopped and began fumbling in his rucksack.
‘Mel…………’ he began.
‘Yes!’ she replied instantly.
He turned and looked at her.
‘Would you…………….’
‘Yes! Yes!’ she gushed.
‘Are you OK? You look a little flushed.’
‘I’m excited and can’t wait to see it! Is it a diamond?’
‘The ring.’
‘What ring?’
‘My engagement ring!’
‘Are you getting married then?’
Her joy evaporated.
‘What were you going to ask.’ she sighed.
‘Just if you had any spare film in your bag. I’ve left mine at the hotel.’

About pensitivity101

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! We have recently lost our beloved dog Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. We decided to have a photo put on canvas as we had for her predecessor Barney, and now have three pictures of our fur babies on the wall as we found a snapshot of my GSD so had hers done too. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.

I love it!! The idea this wasn’t present day didn’t occur to me — as a budding photographer, I still know many prefer to shoot on film {though not as common these days πŸ˜‰ } ❀ Thank you so much for joining us again ❀

Oh, what an anticlimax. Very cleverly done.

  3. Jackie says:

Were they staying at the Heartbreak Hotel? Sucks to be Mel!

  4. colonialist says:

Interesting to think what comes next. Meltdown? Gulping back the disappointment and trying to pretend it never happened? Fury? Maybe I nice hefty shove over the edge?
