Song Lyric Sunday: 3rd March

This week Jim has given us the theme of Occupation.

The first thing that came to mind was “If I was A Carpenter (and you were a lady)” by the Four Tops in 1968.
I guess a lot of people will think of that and a variety of artists.

However, cast your mind back almost 40 years to David Essex in the movie Silver Dream Racer. Motor Racing is an occupation, right?
I wasn’t a fan of David Essex, cheeky chappie with dark curls and blue eyes, though saw That’ll be The Day in 1973 and the sequel Stardust  in 1974 (well didn’t everybody?).
In 1975, I bought my one and only single by him, “If I Could”, because it had some fantastic strings on it.
I remember him singing Brave New World on Jeff Wayne’s album War of The Worlds in 1978, and he recorded Oh What a Circus from Evita the same year.

I enjoyed Silver Dream Racer because of the bike, and watching this vid now (enjoy a bit of Kenny Everett too), well, a bucket of water might come in handy after all.

I’ve a dream, silver dream machine
Here am I, I’m going for another try
Flying high, I’ve got a lot of love inside
Is there love enough now to get me through?
Yeah, I know now where I’m going to
Not to lose now but to win
Tell me, how do I begin?
I’ve a dream, silver dream machine
Well, alright, I’ve got a lot of love to try
‘Cause love is the thing
And freedom is the word I sing
Is there force now, yeah, to get us through?
Yeah, it’s deep in me and it’s deep in you
Not to lose now but to win
Tell me how do I begin?
I’ve a dream, silver dream machine
Silver dream, silver dream machine
Is there love enough now to get me through?
Yeah, I know now where I’m going to
Not to lose now but to win
Tell me how do I begin?
I’ve a dream, silver dream machine
Silver dream, silver dream machine
Silver dream, silver dream machine

About pensitivity101

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! We have recently lost our beloved dog Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. We decided to have a photo put on canvas as we had for her predecessor Barney, and now have three pictures of our fur babies on the wall as we found a snapshot of my GSD so had hers done too. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.

  1. I never listened to David Essex before, but this song was enjoyable. I see that he is still playing concerts at the age of 71.

  2. Mary B says:

This is a new to me as well. Man, he sure looked awkward at the start of the song.

  3. I remember this one Di 🙂
