First thoughts were The Big O and ‘Crying’, or the King’s Crying in the Chapel, so I thought I’d try to provide something a bit different.

I remember my sister was forever playing The Mersey’s Sorrow way back in 1966 which actually drove me nuts. David Bowie did a cover in 1973 which I thought was better.
However, crying means tears, so I’m going with that.

This is for my Mum.
She loved to hear Ken Dodd sing, preferring that to his wacky sense of humour and the Diddymen, which she didn’t like at all.
Tears, written by Billy Uhr and Frank Capano, was released in 1965 and made the number one spot in the UK charts where it stayed for five weeks. It was one of the top selling records of that year.
Tears
Tears for souvenirs are all you left me
Memories of a love you never meant
I just can’t believe you could forget me
After all those happy hours we spent (together)
Tears have been my only consolation
But tears can’t mend a broken heart, I must confess
Let’s forgive and forget, turn our tears of regret
Once more to tears of happiness
Tears have been my only consolation
But tears can’t mend a broken heart, I must confess
Let’s forgive and forget, turn our tears of regret
Once more to tears of happiness
Let’s forgive and forget, turn our tears of regret
Once more to tears of happiness

Lovely. My mum didn’t like Ken but loved this song. Brought a nice tear this morning. Thank you.
Our Mums had similar taste. Mine also liked Des O’Connor.
Di this is really a lovely song, thanks for selecting it.
Some of the old stars from yesteryear were a jack of all trades. This is the kind of music I grew up with, the sort that Mum would sing along to as I played.
I don’t know this one or Ken Dodd but it’s nice. Thanks for the share. 😊
Ken Dodd died on March 11 last year and was one of the last ‘entertainers’ in the true sense of the word IMHO. Happiness was another popular song of his.
The lyrics tear me apart. “Tears for souvenirs are all you left me.” 😦
It’s a lovely ballad.
