Iris was livid.
Her precious piano had been painted bright canary yellow by some stupid designer for some equally stupid television show. They had also thrown out her expensive persian rug and replaced it with a tacky Hollywood type star on an orange laminated floor.
The atmospheric joss sticks emitted a stench of eucalyptus that made her eyes water and had her reaching for the aspirin to relieve her headache.
The idea had been to give her room a facelift, but the damage done was irreparable.
And they expected her to ‘smile for the camera’!?

About pensitivity101

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! We have an elderly dog called Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.

    And another one to try!

Ha. I’ve often wondered what would happen if the makeover didn’t “take”

    • Apparently it happened on more than one cccasion. One person lost her omplete collwction of china teapots as the floating shelf collapsed, another hated their framed photographs as it looked like they were encased in toilet seats and a third was so repelled that she got professional decorators in within the week.
Ad, yes, someone did have their piano painted………… it was ruined.

I’m sure they have to sign a release of responsibility, so it would be heartbreaking to wind up with a product you couldn’t live with. I’m sure they only show the big successes and there are many makeovers swept under the rug. Must admit I loved watching Changing Rooms, though..

      • There were some very novel ideas…………………

  3. I am so glad hubby is so handy saves on hiring someone! I often watch these redecorating shows and so often the spaces are more about the facade than functionality. Even the facades can be flimsy such that work is soon needed or unrepresentative of the client or just too hard to maintain. Especially house building shows where they build a massive house for a low income family who is unable to afford upkeep or the bills associated with such properties. They don’t think long-term.

Never understood letting total strangers redoing the decorating, even if it was for tv… Good take.

  5. Michael says:

I did enjoy your ending Di, as if after all the indignity of the situation she had to SMILE??

  6. tedstrutz says:

I loved the first line. Cute story, a makeover gone sour.
