First Line Friday: 21st December

Your line for this week is:

The radio was playing the oddest song.

Thanks Dylan, and a Merry Christmas to you and your family.

The radio was playing the oddest song.
It was a toe-tapping upbeat number, but nothing anyone directly recognised.
It was tuneful, though seemed to be a mishmash of a hundred different songs, and obviously something meant something to somebody and everybody.
In houses everywhere, presents were gathered from under trees, taken in armfuls to the local mall and deposited under the huge tree in the centre.
A jolly Santa sat beaming at the hundreds of gifts arriving, watching as tables were erected and food was carried out from all take-away outlets, bakeries and restaurants.
The music continued on a loop, but no-one tired of it. Everyone was in good spirits, and either sat or stood around the tree, leaving space for the parcels that continued to arrive.
People, young and old, rich or poor, all came together in this joyous gathering.
There was no shuffling or pushing for supremacy, everyone was equal regardless of race, colour or belief as side by side, they sat and chatted, shared a meal on paper plates with plastic cutlery, drank from cartons or cardboard cups and selected a single gift.
If the newspapers hadn’t covered the story, no-one would have believed it.

It was all in the music.
As the melody played, the hidden message within filtered through to the subconscious, a bit like the single frame photo in a movie which suddenly makes the audience want a hotdog or popcorn.
It was simply  ‘Goodwill to all Men’.

About pensitivity101

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! In November 2020, we lost our beloved Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. We decided to have a photo put on canvas as we had for her predecessor Barney. We now have three pictures of our fur babies on the wall as we found a snapshot of Kizzy, my GSD when Hubby and I first met so had hers done too. On February 24th 2022 we were blessed to find Maya, a 13 week old GSD pup who has made her own place in our hearts. You can follow our training methods, photos and her growth in my blog posts. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.

That sends out a signal on exactly the right frequency.
