FOWC: 10th December

Today our word is SPECIAL.

Special day, special gift, special needs, special someone, the list goes on, but what takes us out of the norm to become ‘Special’?
Hubby said he knew there was something special about me within an hour of us meeting (bless him, and he’d only had half a pint). It took me a little longer to realise we had a special relationship, which over the years has only got better.

As you know, I make my own cards, and for that Special Someone, like Hubby or my Mum, I’d make a special one. It wouldn’t necessarily be the biggest, or most intricate (I can’t do the fiddly stuff so much now anyway), but it would be a one off, and I’d perhaps taken a little more care to get things ‘just so’ for the trimmings, or the finishing touch of a verse inside.
This was the last one I made for Mum, it was for her birthday last year.
I’d made a special Christmas card too with polar bears on it and written a poem which was put on matching card then laminated so that it kept nice. I didn’t take pictures as everything was such a rush to get down to see her last December, but she wasn’t well when we arrived and slept most of the time I was there. I like to think she did see them before she was taken into hospital on Christmas Eve with a broken wrist.
She was a Special Lady, but then most Mums are.

About pensitivity101

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! We have an elderly dog called Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.

The card’s lovely. Wish I had a talent for art of some kind.

    • Thank you. I was rather pleased and Mum loved it. Actually, I haven’t got any talent for art though. I belonged to a ladies group and we had a demonstration. I got the bug, and there are many kits you can buy, or a choice of trimmings and pretty papers to do your own thing on a variety of sized and coloured cards. I enjoy it.

  2. That’s a lovely card, P. I also hope she saw it.
