Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “musical.”
I come from a musical family, and the majority of the pieces I play are from the old musicals from way back when.
Years back, Mum used to sing along or hum when she forgot the words, but even with dementia, those old familiar melodies came forth and on the last couple of occasions I played for her, I could hear her clear voice singing in the background.
I get my natural gift from my Dad, who like me played by ear and without music. Mum could play but only from sheet music and her mother used to play what was termed ‘Soh, fah, te’. I suppose that was how Doh a Deer from The Sound Of Music originated, and yes, I can play Climb Every Mountain, My Favourite Things, Edelweiss, and the title song.
My sister had lessons, but found it difficult, turned to the ‘cello and couldn’t get to grips with that either and bought herself a guitar, which I’ve never heard her play at all.
My niece can play the piano, though I’ve only heard her play Imagine (which was beautiful by the way), but as for anyone ese, I think the musical gene has had its day.
