The Friday Reminder and Prompt for #SoCS Nov. 3/18

Seeing as the majority of books I’m looking at just now are puzzle books, this is a tad hard!
However, I do have a new novel by the bed that I haven’t even started yet, so I picked it up, turned towards the end, and read:

‘It looks like I’m not going to get any lunch.’

How many times when I was working did I say that?
Be it deadlines or being highly involved in something that needed an uninterrupted train of thought, lunch took a back seat.
In the bank’s operations centre, the only time we were allowed to eat at our desk was if it was someone’s birthday and we all had cake. Cups of tea or coffee were fine, and maybe a biscuit or two, but never sandwiches or the wondrous fish and chips.
There was a food bar downstairs, where the hottest thing you could get was toasted sandwiches. When they had the first of the office revamps, this was removed and vending machines installed. They were nearly always raided by the night shift, so a bagel run was organised, and we’d phone in our orders by 10 am for delivery around 11.

At the book company, they had a nice staff room with free tea and coffee, plus a microwave. Again a van would do the rounds between 10.30 and 11, but if we didn’t fancy anything from that, there was a sandwich shop just up the road, and their bacon and mushroom butties were to die for. If you were a bit more flash with the cash, there was always pub grub just up the road.
