Thursday photo prompt: Way-stone #writephoto

Every Thursday at noon GMT, Sue Vincent publishes one of her photos as a writing prompt.
This is our photo today:
In days gone by I was honoured and cleansed,
Not for me a cloak of lichen and ivy.
Times change, but still I remain
To show those who have lost the way.
Who acknowledges my presence,
Sees these trees as I do,
My brethren and companions,
Not just a wood to walk through.
There is life here in abundance,
Just stop to listen and you will hear
Birds chatter excitedly, animals scurry
To dens and nests but not in fear.
I am stone, once warm to touch
Heralded as sacred in times past,
My magic may have diminished
But tall and proud, I have another task:
I am guide to others not of this place,
Their beacons shine from the skies
Searching the hollows with their beams,
Waiting and watching as this world dies.

About pensitivity101

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! Due to a nightmare of a house sale in 2014, 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat until April 2017. We made strong friendships both on and off the water, and enjoyed swan and duck families for neighbours. Sadly times change and we now reside in a small bungalow a short distance from the beach on the Lincolnshire coast.

And when we’re gone they will arrive? Like the updating of the old waystone to a modern purpose similar to it’s old use.

I really like the gently feel of this … warning. The beautiful discription of the Forrest the knowledge of eaons. The message that we are only here temporarily but the stone is perminant. 💜💜
