Home is where the heart is, or where you lay your head.
Here there are so many people crammed into such a small space, pensioners, families, single parents, there is no privacy as everyone hears everything going on in the next flat.
Rents ranged from £250 to £450 a week depending on the number of bedrooms, and the landlords were raking it in.
James Lyton’s grandson was visiting and looked out of his grandfather’s window.
‘How many chickens do you have Granfer?’ he asked.
‘Chickens Archie? I don’t have any chickens. I couldn’t keep them here, We’re too high up and don’t have a garden.’
‘But those are your chicken houses opposite aren’t they?’
James looked out of the window too and realised that Lyton Towers did indeed look like row upon row of chicken houses.
