Time To Write: Speak

You can check out Rachel’s challenge here:

I know you can hear me,  and I know you understand.
You’ve proved you’re smart, so why don’t you speak?
I’ve heard your voice, you’ve raised it often enough in warning.
You show me what you want, or where you want to go.
Is it too much to ask for you to speak?
I can give you so many wonderful things.
Steak, ice cream, even certain chocolate if you’d like.
But I’d love for you to speak when asked.
Is it so hard? Could you at least try?

Two sad brown eyes looked up from the bed.
The smell of roast chicken was tantalising his nostrils.
So, she wanted him to speak did she.
Speak to get a reward.
Such a little thing really.
He looked her straight in the eye and said:

‘I’m a dog for chrissake. I’ll bark, I’ll woof, I’ll even howl if you want, but speak as in conversation? Fat chance. Now feed me!’

She fainted.

About pensitivity101

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! We have an elderly dog called Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.
