“I could get used to this………………….”

Yesterday saw us giving Maggie her scrambled egg for breakfast as normal and the first portions of plain yoghurt plus boiled chicken and rice for her dinner.
Rather than overload her tummy, we split the volume up so that she had yoghurt on three occasions and chicken and rice on two throughout the day. The dry food which was in her bowl was thrown away and not replenished until we could see what was going on.

She has been drinking normally, but for most of yesterday she slept. Like us, sleep is probably a good thing, though we did go out in the car and she was quite content.
We went for a walk just after 8pm when it was nice and cool, and the second motion of the day was ‘good’.

This morning, we went for a short walk where everything was again ‘good’, but she didn’t seem to want to walk far so we came home.
She’s eaten her egg, had a couple of spoonfuls of yoghurt, and a small portion of chicken and rice. I’ve put a few of her dried food nuggets down just in case she fancies a nibble, but somehow I think she would rather have the chicken and rice every day!
It’s not going to happen, but she will have it today and tomorrow, and possibly Sunday to give her tummy and bowel a chance to recover.

We think the yoghurt is also helping Hubby’s reflux, so if it means a large tub of it gets added to the shopping trolley once a week for the two loves of my life, it’s a small price to pay for their good health!

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! We have recently lost our beloved dog Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. We decided to have a photo put on canvas as we had for her predecessor Barney, and now have three pictures of our fur babies on the wall as we found a snapshot of my GSD so had hers done too. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.

Yoghurt is amazing at helping settle the gut flora. I hope both your loves feel better soon. 🙂
Though as you say, Maggie may prefer not to, if she gets chicken every day. 😀

  2. My vet has always wanted Hazel to eat yogurt. She’s the cat with bowel issues. She just doesn’t like it. I haven’t been able to get any of the cats to eat it although they will drink milk or lick ice cream.

    • We’ve given Maggie a bit of our ice cream for years, and I’ve just discovered it’s bad for her!! Thank goodness it was only in small quantities!
She seems to like this though, and according to the site we looked on, Greek yoghurt was better as it had been ‘sifted’ an extra time. It’s still quite thick and creamy, and there are frozen doggie yoghurts available over here. Wonder if Hazel would notice the difference between frozen yoghurt and ice cream?
