Emily was sitting up and looking out of the window, fascinated by the bright star in the night sky.
She turned to her Dad who had just finished reading her a bedtime story.
‘Do you think she can see us Daddy?’
He felt a lump in his throat and tears fill his eyes. It had been only two months since Nancy had been taken so cruelly from them.
‘I think so Sweetie.’
Emily waved at the comet and snuggled under the sheets, then looked across at the empty bed where her twin used to sleep.
‘Night, sis.’ she said softly.

About pensitivity101

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! In November 2020, we lost our beloved Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. We decided to have a photo put on canvas as we had for her predecessor Barney. We now have three pictures of our fur babies on the wall as we found a snapshot of Kizzy, my GSD when Hubby and I first met so had hers done too. On February 24th 2022 we were blessed to find Maya, a 13 week old GSD pup who has made her own place in our hearts. You can follow our training methods, photos and her growth in my blog posts. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.

    Lump in my throat…

    • When my great grandfather died, I remember being told he had gone to heaven to join the stars. I was 5 or 6 at the time.

      • Ritu says:

It’s amazing how soothing those little make believe stories are… and who knows, maybe it’s true, be we are too skeptical as adults to think any differently…

  2. Charli Mills says:

To lose a twin would be so hard as a child, but I wonder if twins have a better sense of connecting beyond the five senses than non-twins. Well done, Di!

    • I don’t know Charli, but I had twin aunts and they certainly had a connection. When I lived in the Bath area, the number of sets of twins in the village was surprising. The teachers begged parents not to dress them alike!

  3. Michael says:

You got that lump in the throat right Di. So well done.
