Going potty

Yeah, I know, old and knackered. It comes to us all.
Half of our plans for yesterday came about, but the curtain pole is still in the roof and the curtains in their packaging.
No matter, Hubby did some work outside, and I helped a little bit.

I said the other day that our back garden was a mess. We couldn’t blame it all on the thunderstorms or the heat, but a mess it was and had to be dealt with.

Since the F invasion, the back garden has been out of bounds for Maggie, especially after our disposal of the sofa bed. A few days ago we treated it with weed killer, and this being the third day, Hubby could now cut the grass.
It wasn’t exactly knee deep, but it was a struggle as it was longer than he’d like and the ground was so hard. Still, it’s done and the garden looks more like it should do again.

We purchased eight large pots a few days ago, and the idea is to transplant the roses, fruit bushes, lavender and laurel into them. The roses have wilted very quickly in this latest batch of heat, so putting them in pots will be easier to tend.
This year was very much a learning curve as to what to grow or plant, and with the soil not being that good and the garden bigger than we anticipated, pots are definitely the way forward.

Hubby however miscalculated as we need two more and some bags of compost.
Our compost heap which is currently occupied by our buddleia has mulched down really well, so that has given us a good base rather than lumps of clay which has baked in the ground and is almost as solid as if fired in a kiln.

So, tomorrow we are off to the garden centre for said two pots and compost. We might even have a coffee and cake as we can take Maggie in.

About pensitivity101

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! In November 2020, we lost our beloved Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. We decided to have a photo put on canvas as we had for her predecessor Barney. We now have three pictures of our fur babies on the wall as we found a snapshot of Kizzy, my GSD when Hubby and I first met so had hers done too. On February 24th 2022 we were blessed to find Maya, a 13 week old GSD pup who has made her own place in our hearts. You can follow our training methods, photos and her growth in my blog posts. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.
