The Friday Reminder and Prompt for #SoCS August 4/18

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “call.” Use the word “call” or any word that contains those letters in that order. Have fun!

I guess the first thing that comes to mind would be a telephone call. These days our phone rarely rings, and when the mobile goes off, I jump in my seat!
Years ago, any phone calls would be cold callers, double glazing sales or the like, rarely someone actually wanting to talk to us and pass the time of day.
Even going X directory didn’t stop them all, and I lost my temper once with a company that rang us three times on the same night by saying ‘Don’t you guys talk to each other, or are you all working on the same page!’ and slammed the phone down.

These days if the phone rings, I anticipate bad news. My mobile has identification on callers, so at least I know who’s calling. Any number I don’t recognise makes me instantly wary, especially with the recent scams going around.
On the other hand, or ear, I rarely call anyone, preferring to write, email or text!

About pensitivity101

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! We have recently lost our beloved dog Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. We decided to have a photo put on canvas as we had for her predecessor Barney, and now have three pictures of our fur babies on the wall as we found a snapshot of my GSD so had hers done too. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.

  1. John Holton says:

The scams are getting more sophisticated. A lot of times they’re looking to capture your voice print for their own nefarious purposes. When a call comes in from a number I don’t recognize, I let it roll into voice mail. If they have a legitimate reason to call, they’ll leave a message.

    • We got extremely nervous when we heard about the ‘yes’ scam for voice recognition, especially when our bank is encouraging its use. Glad I don’t do banking on line or by phone.
