Cassie felt the ocean calling her.
Quietly, she slipped through the door, closing it softly behind her.
The beach wasn’t far away, and she walked across the fine sand to the water’s edge, feeling the coolness of the waves caress her skin.
Gracefully, she dove in, feeling as she always did her body change and swell in the sanctuary of Home.
With a flick of her tail, she was under, swimming towards the coral and the underworld of the sea.
She lifted herself onto her favourite rock, her long hair flowing with the current and her tail tucked beside her, totally at peace with her surroundings.

‘Don’t wake her,’ Doctor Simmonds whispered to his colleagues, as once again Cassie was found on the bottom of the empty pool, perfectly posed as the mermaid she thought she was in her dreams.

About pensitivity101

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! We have an elderly dog called Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.

It’s either an interesting dream or a terrible mental illness.

I like the twist at the end… It’s ambiguous enough to make me think and want to know more about this person. Very visual with the details you give.

Sometimes people tend to do weird things hoping to get at things beyond their means. She obviously needs help. With a Dr around she is protected in this case!
