I will tie this in with culprit and passing the buck……… unfairly!

My tail tale involves 2 dogs and a turkey.
You can probably guess, but I’ll tell you anyway.

As was the norm, I would cook the Christmas turkey for the family overnight, thus leaving my oven free for everything else, especially when the last few years involved entertaining in-laws, Ex wives and foster kids on Christmas Day.

Stupidly, I left the cooked turkey on the worktop, though pushed right to the back and out of reach of the dogs (or so I thought).
I came down from my shower to find the collie looking bemused with a drumstick sticking out of his mouth like Churchill’s cigar.
His accomplice in crime was the GSD, looking totally innocent on her bed as if butter (or turkey fat) wouldn’t melt.

I knew it was her who’d nicked it though, as the collie was just a pup and couldn’t reach. Luckily for us the bone had come out intact leaving the meat on the bird, because, as always, it was cooked to perfection!

About pensitivity101

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! We have recently lost our beloved dog Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. We decided to have a photo put on canvas as we had for her predecessor Barney, and now have three pictures of our fur babies on the wall as we found a snapshot of my GSD so had hers done too. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.

  1. I worry about this happening all the time – even if Choppy has never showed any sign of going after something on the counter, I know all it takes is one too-tempting item and she is up there.
